University Hospitals Birmingham Charity has just launched an ambitious £7.2 million appeal to fund a state-of-the-art Total Body PET CT Scanner. This groundbreaking technology has the potential to change how we diagnose, treat, and understand some of the most complex diseases facing our communities.
Quite simply, it will make a life-changing difference.
This next-generation scanner is faster, safer, and far more precise than current technology. Scan times will reduce from up to 30 minutes to just five, making the experience significantly more comfortable for patients, while also delivering clearer images using a lower dose of radiation.
But the impact goes much further.
- Children will be able to undergo scans without the need for general anaesthetic, reducing risk and distress for both them and their families
- Pregnant women will have access to vital imaging with clearer diagnosis without compromising their health or their baby’s
- More patients will be seen each year, with over 2,000 additional appointments helping to reduce waiting times
Its ability to scan the entire body in a single session provides unprecedented opportunities for research. It’s an investment in better outcomes and faster diagnoses. It positions Birmingham at the forefront of medical innovation.
